The Stall Stadium
After twelve long years of collecting money, drawing
plans and praying diligently, the Stall High School community has finally
received its long awaited football stadium. August 29, 1982 marked the official
opening of the stadium with a dedication on the stadium grounds. Many
citizens who have played an important role in obtaining the football field
attended the dedication. Distinguished guests presented speeches on the
event.
Mr. G. W. Murray, Principal of Birney Middle School,
gave a few welcoming words. The invocation was presented by Pastor Neil
Malone Yongue, from the graduating class of 1972. The Presentation of
Colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the band, directed by Mr. Rose Kennedy,
which played the National Anthem, came next. Also, there was a
Presentation of Guests by Mr. George C McCrackin, Area Assistant Superintendent
of the Cooper River Constituent District.
Remarks form Mr. John Graham Altman, Chairman of the
Board of Trustees in the Charleston County School District, led the way for
presentation by Dr. Ronald A. McWhirt, Superintendent for the Charleston County
School District; Ms. Claire McCrary, Chairman of the Board of Trustees in the
Cooper River Constituent District; and from the Honorable Daniel E. Winstead of
the South Carolina House of Representatives.
After the band's entertaining musical selection, the
history and dedication of Alice Birney was presented by Ms. Jan G. Epley and Mr.
Malcolm Hursey. The history of the Stall High School stadium was presented
by Mrs. Betty Smith, and the dedication by Mr. Robert Barnwell Stall, Sr.
followed.
Once again, Stall's band gave an enjoyable performance
by playing the Alma Mater, Principal Lynda F. Davis paid tribute to many
patrons, and, as a closing, a vocal ensemble, directed by Mr. Victor Varner,
performed.
Thanks to all its supporters, Stall has finally
received the stadium they have long deserved. Coupled with the Varsity
Football team's successful season, 1983 has proved to be an exhilarating year.
